Beggin' Brownie

My friend decided to bake brownies for the first time today and was so excited that she sent me a picture ... naturally I exploited this obvious opportunity to mess with her.

Cereal Sweetness

Sometimes in life you are having a grumpy time - It's not especially harder than other times, but your attitude about life if not that good. These are the moments when little thoughtful things make all the difference. Like receiving the sunglasses you've only dreamed of for a present (thanks mum!) or someone looking out for you in the most trivial of ways. This past week my stepmum came home with boxes of fun cereal (let's step aside and let me explain: I don't really like cereal but I loooooves funcereal. Nesquik cerearl, Luck Charms - you get the idea - these tend to be the cereals that are NEVER bought in my house). Back to the story: my stepmum pulled out a box of Corn Pops and I got a little excited - finally I can stop eating toast for breakfast/elevensies. Of course, in any story there is an antagonist who just must my my (protagonist) route harder. In this case ... and in many cases I guess, this is my brother. He Loves any cereal, as long as there is an abundance of sugar also handy. He eats on average 3-4 bowls a day - it's gross. Anyway, when I said the Corn Pops looked delicious my stepmum rightfully warned that I should make sure to get them early before they disappear into the bottomless pit that is my brother. The next morning after everyone had left for work/school I wandered into the kitchen and found this bowl of Corn Pops on the table - carefully covered in Saranwrap with my name on it. =D apparently this was a joint effort by my sister and my stepmum to allow me to enjoy those delicious Corn Pops - and boy were they delicious!

It's International CHOCOLATE Day! aka Easter!

Being that it is Easter Sunday I thought I'd tell you a little story about Chocolate ... my housemate Calvin I guess bought some Dove chocolates. Inside the foil wrapping of every chocolate is a little saying (kind of like a fortune cookie). Only these sayings don't predict any sort of future, they have little phrases like, "Sleep on high thread-count sheets". Well, I could tell Calvin was going to have some trouble with theses chocolates from the get go when he read his first wrapper as "Lump on the bed" instead of what it actually said: "Jump on the bed". So when he started opening wrappers that were clearly meant for women I had to laugh ... "Wearing a Push-Up Bra isn't cheating" and "Match your underwear" These caused Calvin to maybe have a bit of an adverse reaction to the actual chocolate product initially, but in the end he embraced it. So too have many people I guess since when I googled Dove chocolate, there were as many pictures of wrappers as the choclate themselves...
Also .. If you want to create your very own personalized message to be wrapped around chocolate, ripped open and then thrown away .... well you most definitely CAN! click here and Dove should totally pay me for the referrals.... just saying

Spaghetti Squash: How-To!

I have to cook for myself on the daily which can be really hard because I always have lots of left overs and there's not very much incentive to cook ultra delicious/healthy meals when your cooking for one. That beings said I do enjoy well made meals once they've been prepared, even if I do get a little sick of eating their leftovers (like the chickpea curry i've been eating since Thursday). One dish that is so easy it has a reputation is Spaghetti Squash! It is so delicious and so easy to make!
Step 1: Buy Squash. The first time I made this I went to A&P and they only had big squashes so I thought that was the only size they came in. Little did I know that at my new favourite store: Loblaws, they have all different sizes, so I picked up a cute little one that fit perfectly into my little caserole dish I got for Christmas!
Step 2: Get a Knife, spoon, fork, or whatever will be easiest for you to carve out the insides. It's like a pumpkin so you have to cut it in half and then carve out all the seeds.
Step 3: Preheat over to 350 degrees and put your squash halves face down in a caserole dish(es).
Step4: pop them in the oven for 45min-1hr
Step 5: Take a fork and scrape out the squash - it's stringy like spaghetti!
Step 6: add pasta sauce, cheese etc ... I added chicken and it was delicious.
Step 7: Enjoy your meal!

For the Record: I am NOT a Hungry Man

I was running errands with my housemate Calvin today dowtown and we made a last-minute decision to hit up the Food Basics. Well Calvin bit off a little more than he could chew (groan) and asked me to carry the microwaveable meal he bought himself for a quick lunch... it wasn't just any old microwave dinner though ... it was a HUNGRY MAN! OVER 1 POUND OF FOOD. Sooooooooooo embarrassing!
P.S. It was such a beautiful day today! it was like SPRING had sprung - how appropriate since that spring forward shiz went down today :S hmph.

Pan Chancho Please

This morning a group of us decided to treat ourselves to breakfast at the lovely Pan Chancho Bakery and Cafe. This is the cute little sister restaurant to another of my favourites in Kingston, Chez Piggy. I HIGHLY recommend their delicious brunch menu and hope to try some of their lunch items including a butter chicken wrap. The only negative, which I just realized, is that my sweater still smells like the breakfast I had ... so I smell like egg torta ..mmmm =) below is Pan Chancho's and some of the breakfast diners.

Mili-wok-eh

For New Years my friend Kiani and I went to Wisonsin to visit my mum and step-dad. Unfortunately the trip got off to a bit more of a rocky start than I had hoped for, though not more than I'm used to when I travel. Embarrassingly - we missed our flight on Tuesday in the morning by about 5 minutes. The first time a Midwest flight is on time leaving Pearson is the first time I'm a little late - typical. After some Lauren Conrad-tears (as Kiani calls them) on my part we were able to rebook for the later flight wich left 11 hours after our original flight. Thankfully when we returned to the airport it was not nearly as busy - so we had time to have some fun on the moving sidewalks etc. While on the plane Kiani and I enjoyed the wonder that is Sky Mall - my new favourite magazine which tries to sell, among other things, a voice activated R2-D2, a "keep Your Distance" Bug Vacuum, and a sixteenth-century- Italian Replica Globe Bar. I myself will be saving up for a set of Successories Inspirational posters especially. We got to our destination pretty late and pretty much just headed to bed in preparation for shopping the next day. Shopping was less than stellar: lacklustre deals and not very good items for sale anyway made my spending very lean indeed. We headed to SHOGUN for dinner were Kiani lamented on the ethnicity of our cook and he picked on her. I was able to catch a piece of zucchini in my mouth on the first try which was pretty amazing. We were also given Happy New Year head bands which we wore with delight, then finished off the evening by watching No COuntry For Old Men (loved it!). Later in the night my mum gave us a fancy bottle of Champage with instructions to finish it because it wouldn't keep - we gladly obliged. Thursday we headed to the art museum in Miliwuakee, or as Kiani pronounces it: Mili-wok-eh, which was amazing. We enjoyed a couple games of pool which ended in me sinking the eight ball twice and Kiani sinking it once - all three times it resulted in the sinkers loss of the game, so yeah we aren't goof at pool - but then again I've never claimed to be. Here are some more pictures of our trip:
